Thornaby played some great football against a lively Seaham Red Star on a warm evening at Teesdale Park.
Early opportunities for both sides were few and far between. Sonny Andrews was presented with a good chance for Star to take the lead but fired over the bar, Cracks began to appear in Red Star`s midfield and 20th minute when a shot from Melvin over the bar and Curtis Edwards shot wide from a shot just outside the box, Thornaby took the lead took the lead on thirty six minutes when Edwards fired home following fine work by Melvin. The score line was leveled just before half time when Sonny Andrews slotted home giving Red Star cause for optimism in the second half.
Thornaby took control of the game in the second half with former Spennymoor player Daniel Lambert causing numerous problems with his direct play and pace. It was Lambert who put Thornaby in front with a hard, low drive from close range on 54 minutes, Thornaby could have gone further ahead when Lambert again came close from twenty five yards and this effort was followed by two fine saves by Newbrook Stars Keeper.
Thornaby increased their lead in the 64 minute when a long low hard shot from Daniel Lofts saw it go straight into the bottom right corner, Lambert capped a fine performance finishing from close range a few minutes later to make the score 4 - 1 to the home team.
Seaham rarely pressed throughout the second half and the home side thoroughly deserved their victory with a performance displaying greater self discipline as Seaham had six players booked.
