THORNABY F.C. 9, ESH WINNING 1.
After a bad result against Jarrow last week Thornaby made amends today against Esh Winning in great style.
Thornaby were on top the moment the game started and a great through ball from Kallum Hannah was put over the top of Esh’s defence for Daniel Chapman to run on to (in the 7th minute) which saw him round the keeper Carl Robinson with the ball and he placed it into the empty net. Two minutes later a Thornaby free kick was placed high into the top right corner of the net by Kallum Hannah, Thornaby’s third came from Man of the Match Dominic Tiffany in the 16th minute when he slotted in from a cross from Kurtis Howes. By this time Thornaby were in complete control with Michael James and Ryan Grier both players having returned after missing for a number of games, standing firm in defence with Jordan Wilson and Stephen Morrison playing attacking wing backs.
In the 40th minute Thornaby were awarded a penalty kick when Max Stoker handled the ball inside the box and the referee send him off for a second caution, Hannah stepped up and hit the ball home to make it 4 to the home side, he again hit the net from the penalty spot after Howes was brought down.
H/T 5 – 0
Esh brought on a couple of subs at the restart to help stop the rout but in the 60th minute Hannah got his fourth goal for Thornaby when he side footed the ball in at close range from a Dominic Tiffany cross, three minutes later Tiffany found Howes free who ran into the box with the ball and rounded the keeper to score.
Thornaby got their eighth goal in the 65 minute when Chapman ran in towards goal after a back pass to the keeper, the keeper then tried to kick the ball upfield but it hit Chapman and the ball then rebounded into the empty net. Chapman had a chance to get his hat trick when after beating the keeper he only had to tap the ball in, but he put it over the bar.
Thornaby also played the last 15 minutes with ten men as Chapman went off with a hamstring injury ruling him out for a few weeks, then with the gaming coming to an end, Kurtis Howes took the ball from the half way line and took it past three defenders before going round the advancing keeper Carl Robinson, his shot hit the post and went in to make nine to Thornaby, Kai Hewitson did manage to score for the visitors in the last minute of the game when he collected the ball from over the top of the defence and coolly put it past Simpson to make the final score 9 – 1.
